Time to review Plime

I think that when the entire motivation to review and change the system is discovered to be based on false accusations against a member of the forum, it is worth noting. Huge ado, turns out that no, he wasn't maligned by some anonymous edit. Bingo identified herself when she made the edit removing it, which community standards say is ok for specific reasons.

So...This, to me, remains the topic. If the system needs to be reviewed and revised, fine, but it should NOT be done because of THIS incident.

Edit: On that note, I've just changed things. You can no longer edit anyone whose user level is higher than 5.
« jaxomlotus:Update 2: Users can no longer downvote (or upvote) forum comments more than 30 days old.
So if a spammer gets to level 6, and makes a new thread, makes it sticky, votes it out of existence with a few more level 1 accounts, 2 months later votes it back into existence with the same accounts, then we will have a stickied spam thread that nobody can remove?

He can even change his spam regularly to entertain us.

This thread was about the 'general situation' in the community at the moment
Actually this was just another in a long line of blobstrops.

It just so happened that Jax posted in here and it stayed because of Jax's comments in here.

« Ankabout : How did this thread turn into a discussion again about one comment?

This thread was about the 'general situation' in the community at the moment, not about that one incident. It's about what Jax is doing to try and prevent it, and about us having to sort ourselves out like adults and behave like adults.

It's not about tkgprog's comment, or that comment's edit, or about who believed what and when for whatever reason.

Let's either let the thread die, or stay on topic please?

Thank you. I was about to post the same thing.

About Plime
Plime is an editable wiki community where users can add and edit weird and interesting links. Users earn karma when other users vote on their actions. The more karma you have, the more power you have at Plime.

Jax said on page one that he does not condone the edit.

There is at least one thread that got deleted, and after over a year it got voted back to existence again. Thanks for everybody who decided to give a second chance to that thread. They could not do anything such now.

« TraumaMamma:TKG did not write what he was accused of. If you doubt me, you can PM Jax and find out directly from him. I have no reason to lie.

Makes me wonder how ever many of TKG's other posts you took offense to were altered as well.
Just out of interest, what happened here then?

Actually, I think I'm pretty well bored of the subject

You would be eager to see this subject over with, wouldn't you? ;)

I gave you plenty of opportunity to fess up. You took the low road.

And now I think it's time for an apology.

From everyone to tgkprog. Even if he never comes back, I think an apology is deserved.

Jax,
Thanks for putting an end to this subject once and for all. Now let's get back to happy Pliming!

I think ultimately all the possible changes should be considered based on couple criteria:

- Does it decrease the amount of time jax has to spend solving issues here?
- Does it make the community more appealing to general public and more likely to grow?

Any changes to the system that cut down possible sources of drama are good. Editing well established members posts without traces is obviously a design error that probably should have been corrected long time ago. Disabling voting on old posts cuts down vindictive voting which answers 'yes' to both questions above. Having the ability to do so does neither. Sure, there are some occasions when it would be useful. Is it worth it? Probably not.

Edit: I started to write this before jax's post, but it still stands.

I, for one, was seriously and actively seeking another virtual community to spend my time on... the bickering was draining to say the least.

However, thanks to Jax's intervention and other pleasant Plimates,
I think I'll be sticking around.

And there was much rejoicing...

[Edited to say] That's not a comment saying it's good to see an active member of the community go, as much as he deserved it. He caused for lots of entertainment too.

The much rejoicing is for the fact that the matter is finally solved, and we can go back to roasting marshmallows over the fire next to our Hot Tub! Yay!

Now if you want to delete a thread you have to get your timing right: you have to take a note of when it was created. In the last minutes you and your friends can vote it out of existence without anyone ever having a chance to revive it. That is much more simple than the karma wrestling that was going on before.

I just want to say I think it is a really lame change that we can't upvote things that are older than 30 days. I love when I login and find that someone has upvoted one of my comments from almost a year ago, it is a great feeling. I also like when I am reading a thread I missed and I can upvote the comments in it.

I really think we are going to far in the efforts to stop the mass downvoters, just let us know WHO downvoted us and the problem goes away. Mass downvoters would be one of those problems that the community handles by destroying anyone who does it.

Knowing who downvoted only causes downvote wars in which no-one wins.

Plime is too full of people who would automatically downvote someone just because they downvoted them.

I'm pretty sure that is the reason it was taken away in the first place.

Who cares? start a downvote war and your only hurting yourself. And anyways, how is a downvote war any different than massdownvoting someone? if that happens then you post a log here in the forums and they are held up to the communities justice.

Seriously, am I the only one that misses the upvoting of stuff over a month old? its going to seriously ruin a lot of threads, things like the joke thread work great because people upvote the best jokes and it makes it easy to find good ones. I don't see that working nearly as well anymore

From what I understand, we used to be able to see the downvotes too and it got ugly. Jax decided to take that option away.

I miss not being able to upvote old stuff that I come across in a search too.

Maybe we could get the upvote back, but not the downvote?

The ability to vote on older stuff will be returned once all this dies down, within the forum.
